Bloodgood Japanese Maple
Bloodgood, the archetypal atropurpureum, is an arboreal workhorse, a gorgeous one at that. Robust branching structure with a smooth main trunk holding beautifully tapering branches is revealed in winter, after the scarlet autumn leaves have fallen. First year stem color is dark burgundy-colored all winter long. Vivid burgundy leaves emerge in the spring and stay dark burgundy even with the advent of summer heat. It's exceptionally cold and heat tolerant.
